in different ways among the various peoples who were the first to adopt them: the severe Dorians of Hellas and the refined Ionians of Asia Minor. The first sporadic and confused appearances of the "Doric" and "Ionic" orders date from the seventh century
BC. It was from these two architectural orders that the "Corinthian" and, among the Romans, the "Composite" and "Tuscan" orders were later derived.\par
